Dear Parents,

Both clubs were such a joy this week, and the children are already counting down to our market next Sunday, which seems to be all any of them want to talk about at the moment.

Young Founders House - Money and Business Club

I will start, as always, with Young Founders House. With the heat we have all been having this week, I gave the children a challenge that was exactly what they needed. The heart of it was learning that what people will happily pay for changes with the day, and that a hot, sticky afternoon like the ones we've just had can be the very best time to be selling. They took to it so well, and before long, they were turning the same idea onto their own market stalls for 5 July, working out what might sell nicely and what might melt before lunchtime.

The Yars Queens, our yellow team, are just ahead on the leaderboard at the moment, though there is still everything to play for. 🙂

I explained to the children the difference between being an employee and a business owner, and the difference between a salary and profits from the business. Then we discussed which one they preferred and why. Such amazing conversation and ideas came out of that.

The Young Founders Market

Our next market is on Sunday, 5 July, and I have loved hearing what the children are planning this time. Some want to try something altogether new, which is just how they learn, having a go, playing about with their prices, and bit by bit settling on something that really suits them.

And if your child hasn't landed on an idea yet, please don't worry, and please do let me know how I can help. The market is where they get a proper feel for selling, learn to chat to a customer, put a price on what they have, and pick up that bit of resilience that is so hard to come by as a grown-up. They learn that a no isn't the end of the world, and that you simply pick yourself up and have another go.

So my ready-made stalls are still open. I source all the products and set the stall up myself, so your child just turns up on the day, sells, and keeps the profit. For 5 July, they are:

  • Ice lollies and ice creams, kept cold in one of Patch's freezers

  • Italian desserts and doughnuts from a lovely local patissier

  • Water and a few canned drinks

  • Patch's own snacks, drinks, coffee and tea, with Patch sharing the profit on those

If any of these would suit your child, just drop me a message, and I'll set it aside for them.

Please do come along, whether or not your child is selling this time. Everyone is welcome, so please bring your family, bring your friends, and spread the word however you can. It would mean such a lot to me, and even more to the children, to see a good crowd there. You are very welcome to share it here: https://configuracademy.com/young-founders-market

Rise to Lead - Public Speaking, Confidence and Leadership Club

Over in Rise to Lead, with our showcase not far off now, I taught the children 3 little tools to help with the nerves they are bound to feel on the day, the sort that steady your breath and stop your hands shaking before you stand up to speak.

And then we had the silliest hour of the whole term. Each team picked one child to stand at the front as a very serious expert, completely straight-faced, while the rest of the team pulled every funny gesture they could to try to make them laugh. Watching them try to hold it together was very funny to watch, but there were really 2 things going on. The child at the front was learning to keep calm and hold their nerve in front of everyone, which is just what will carry them through speaking in front of a room full of parents. And the ones doing all the gestures were learning something every bit as important, that the way you use your hands and your face is a big part of any good speech, and brings it to life as much as the words themselves.

Our yellow team won this week. 😊

Dates for the Diary

Rise to Lead Final Showcase

  • Monday 13 July, 6:00 to 7:00 pm at The Patch

  • The children will have their last session as normal that day and will stay on with me afterwards for a small celebration dinner together. Parents are warmly welcome to join us from 6:00 pm sharp for the showcase itself.

  • The topics they have chosen are something to look forward to.

Both parents are very welcome, grandparents and siblings too. If your circumstances change closer to the day, do let me know. We will work it out.

And now for the news I have been longing to share. Very soon, I will be opening bookings for next term, and with it, 2 brand-new clubs that I have quietly worked away at for a long time, and I am very proud of. I am very excited to tell you more in the coming days. 😊

That is everything from this week. As always, if you have a question about either programme or if there is anything you would like to talk through, you can reply to this email or message me directly on 07414 962803.
