Configur Academy - Summer Holidays, Week 4

Dear Parents,

I hope you have had a lovely week. Just the one Zoom class left now, and I should probably apologise for this week's before your child does.

Thursday's class was all about profit, and we kept it very simple. You buy something for £2, you sell it for £5, and the £3 in the middle is yours. We spent most of the hour on where to buy cheaply, charity shops, car boot sales, and multipacks, 10 pens for £2 that sell for £1 each, and the children practised asking "any less?", which they will now do at every car boot sale you ever take them to. 😊 We also set 2 rules before anyone spends a penny, add the postage first, because it always counts, and anything bought online happens with a grown-up, no exceptions.

Our last Zoom class of the summer is this Thursday, the online stall.

One practical thing

If your child does not have a bank account yet, or even if they do, Monzo is an easy place to start. There are no monthly fees, and you manage the child's account from your own app. If you would like to use my link, open an account for yourself first, make any small card payment within 30 days, then add the child's account straight after: https://join.monzo.com/c/6cj8dtxd

When someone joins this way, Monzo gives us both a reward, anywhere from £20 to £100. Whatever I receive from referrals goes straight into the Give pot, which the children will hand to their chosen charity in December.

Any questions, or if you would like a hand setting something up, do ask. And do not worry if it did not all sink in first time for the children. We will be coming back to these ideas again and again over the coming weeks, because that is the only way new concepts stay with children for years to come.

Thank you for the response to September. The weekday classes for Rise to Lead and Young Founders House are now completely full. If you would like a place for your child, the new Saturday classes are open for booking at configuracademy.com, Rise to Lead 2:00 to 3:00 pm and Young Founders House 3:15 to 4:15 pm, and children doing both stay with us from 2:00 to 4:15 pm with snacks and drinks in between.

The Detective Club, Mondays 5:30 to 6:30 pm, and The Insiders Club, Thursdays 5:30 to 6:30 pm, both have places too. And if you would like your child to try a session of any of these before deciding, reply to this email or text me and I will arrange it, I would be very happy to have them.

And finally, the holiday clubs. I am very excited to be building these, and I am thinking bigger than usual. I am combining all the life skills I am on a mission to teach our children into days full of fun, games, play and learning, with a real sense at the end of the day of having achieved something and having been very happy doing it. 😊
