Configur Academy - Autumn Term, Week 7

Dear Parents,

Hello, this is Orgesa from Configur Academy, and what a lovely week we have had to finish on before half term. And now, back to the clubs. 😊

Most of the children have now chosen their topics for the end-of-term presentation, and I have to tell you, what a list it is. We have everything from whether AI is a good or a bad thing for our children’s generation, to the world in 2050 through our children’s eyes, to what adults get wrong, as seen from a child’s point of view, and a lot more. I cannot wait for the children to explore these topics together; children have so much to say, and I am fascinated to hear all of it.

In the following weeks, we will concentrate on writing the presentations together in class, using the structure the children have learned, and from there we will concentrate on more presentation skills. I will share the date of the presentations with you nearer the time. 🙂

We carried on with Investing this week, our second week on it, and looked at the different ways of investing, from ISAs to Premium Bonds, and I was amazed to see how interested the children were and how many great questions they asked.

In the second part, we talked about the market. The children have come home this week with a list of 30 ideas for the market, but after a chat with each one of them, most already have an idea of what they want to do. They also have a second form, and over the next few weeks I will work with each of them to work out the cost of their products, how many they need to make, what to charge, and finally the total loan they will need to pitch to you for. It is going to be a very exciting market and I can`t wait. 🙂

The children worked on a new case this week, but to solve it they first had to play a few games to win the evidence, and the evidence each team won was theirs alone, not to be shared with anyone else.

The children also had a decision to make, and have started thinking about the case they are going to write for you to solve at the end of term. I am very excited to tell you more in the weeks to come, but for now the children have to keep the case completely private, so if they will not tell you a thing about it, that is exactly as it should be. 😊

This was one of my favourite lessons so far. The children learned what information the machines gather about them whenever they go online, on social media, on Google, on their favourite games, and how that information is then used.

And through games, they learned what is safe to share online and what is never safe to share. It is so exciting to see those penny drop moments, when the children start to understand how everything works, like a proper insider. 😊
