Dear Parents,

Hello, this is Orgesa from Configur Academy, and before I get to the clubs, thank you so much to this amazing community for the overwhelmingly amazing response to my news about needing some help to expand the Academy, thanks a lot, it really has meant the world to me. If you have not had a chance to look at it yet, and you can think of any great teacher, teaching assistant, drama teacher, or any parent who is wonderful with children, please do forward them the link: https://www.configuracademy.com/teach-a-club/. Thank you again.

And now, back to the clubs. 😊

Rise to Lead - Public Speaking, Confidence and Leadership

This week it was Drop the Mic, and after learning how to open a presentation and how to build the middle, the children learned how to end one with a sentence that sticks, one that everyone will remember, just like the slogan at the end of an advert. So the challenge this week was to create a short advert, with a slogan at the end that sticks, and some of them really did stick, so do ask your child for theirs, I have a feeling you will be hearing it for a while. 🙂

Young Founders House - Business, Money and Entrepreneurship

This week we talked about Investing, our fourth and last jar. We started with a choice, £1,000 in your hand right now, or 1p that doubles every day for 30 days, and I will let the children tell you which one wins, and by how much. Then the children learned that investing is giving your money a job, so it goes into something and comes back bigger, which is very different from saving, where the money stays safe but does not grow, and very different from luck, where the money just moves from one pocket to another and nobody makes a single new pound.

We talked about our Christmas market on Saturday 12 December as well, and the children already had some great ideas for what they might sell, and we talked through a lot more ideas that I had for them too. Next week we will look at the different kinds of investment, and finalise the plans for what the children will sell at the market.

The Detective Club - Critical Thinking, Reasoning and Problem Solving

What an amazing case we had this week. The children worked in their teams to crack a 4-number code, and I was amazed again by how easy and how much fun maths becomes when it is explained in a fun way and turned into a game, somehow maths is simply fun in this club.

And after the case, I revealed something I had kept secret from them until now. The children are going to write a case of their own, the clues and everything, so they start seeing a case from the writer’s side and learn how to build one themselves, which is a whole new set of skills for them, and at the end of term you will all be invited to come and solve the case the children have created, more on this to come in the next few weeks. 😊

The Insiders Club - AI, Algorithms & Growing Up Online

The word this week was Algorithm, and the children started by designing a video of their own, and then we learned what an algorithm is, and that it is the algorithm, not a person, that chooses the videos and the information the children see, by watching what they do and giving them more of the same. And this is not only social media and YouTube, it is Google and what it shows you, the online shops and a lot more, they all use the very same techniques. Their mission this week is to look at the first 3 things on a grown-up’s feed and guess what that grown-up has been watching, so do not be surprised if they ask for a look at your phone this week. 😊

Thank you so much again for your support. I do not take it lightly. I would love it if you could give me some feedback on the form below. I read every one, and it helps me make these programmes better for our children. I certainly do not take anything personally, so please do complete it. 🙂 It helps me more than you can imagine, and if you could leave a testimonial too I would be extremely grateful: feedback.configuracademy.com
